Fine Arts Department Achievements

The following directors, ensembles and students are selected to perform in the 2014 Michigan Youth Arts Festival on May 8th and May 10th at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.

CONGRATULATIONS DPS ART TEACHER OF THE YEAR
RHS Art Instructor - Mrs. Odette Holley
Mrs. Holley serves as the art instructor at Renaissance High School which consists of one of DPS’ highly
competitive advanced art programs. In 2010 Mrs. Holley was selected to continue a progressive program that offers
students a four year course of study. Her students consistently out perform their Detroit competitors in drawing,
painting, printmaking, mix media and photography in both the Regional Scholastic and Detroit Institute of Art Exhibitions.
Under the guidance of Mrs. Holley, students have won Chancellor’s Awards from Wayne County Community College’s
Annual Student Exhibition, Scholarships to the National Council of Artist Summer Institute and a National Gold
medal in photography for the annual Scholastic competition. Renaissance art students have been awarded
over $50,000 in scholarships to continue their artistic careers.

Winners in the Detroit Institute of Arts Student Exhibition


Renaissance High School students and staff placed in multiple categories at the 77th Annual Detroit Public Schools Student Exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts Saturday, April 12. The exhibit featured hundreds of talented works created by DPS students in grades K-12, including paintings, prints, drawings, photography, ceramics, videos, jewelry and more!

Renaissance winners included:

1st Place Printmaking- Nathaniel Matthews
2nd Place Printmaking- Etana Hughes
2nd Place Photography- Brianna Brydie
